The Weighbridge Concept Explained

Weighbridges are scales that weigh heavily loaded vehicles. An electronic or digital monitor displays the readings of the vehicle weight. Weighbridges are used by several industries where supply or delivery is in the form of truckloads or big huge containers.

The concept of weighbridge is elementary, basically the loaded trucks are weighed on the scale and once the supply is delivered and the trucks are unloaded, they are again weighed to check the accuracy. This helps in finding out the real weight of deliverables.

Weighbridges are a boon to industries like mining, electrical equipment, powder, iron and steel, liquid and household goods industries where heavy supplies need movement.

Types of weighbridges

Based on their specifications they have different applications in different industries. Their application defines their cost, ground conditions, space and the overall purpose will impact the type of weighbridge you choose.

Above Ground Weighbridges: Least expensive weighbridges with not much site preparation needed. They are commonly used. Though a lot of surfaces are covered as ramps are installed which can be single or multi-levelled.

Semi Pit Weighbridges: Cost-effective option although extensive site preparation like digging and pipe draining must take place before installation. Semi pit weighbridges are ground level and don’t need ramps.

In-Ground Weighbridges: Placed underground so needs a lot of site preparation like digging, installing, etc. In-Ground Weighbridges are huge scales for trucks embedded in the ground. Excavation and surveying is part of site preparation. Such weigh scales placed on highways where trucks stop.

Portable Weighbridges: No site preparation needed as they are above ground and easy to move. Portable Weighbridges are made to be easily transported to multiple sites, are best used for the construction, transportation, and logging industries.
